Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

After an extremely entertaining game against the Bucks where the short-handed Spurs almost pulled off the biggest upset of the season over the Milwaukee Bucks, they’re on the road again, this time facing the Cavaliers on their home court. Victor Wembanyama has the game of his young NBA career against Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he also had plenty of help from Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson who played well, while the Spurs offense seemed a lot more organized with a point guard in the starting lineup.

The Spurs were just one missed shot away from overtime against the Bucks, and they hope to keep the competitive juices flowing against the Cavs tonight, even though the game tipoff is way to close to sunrise for comfort. The Cavs backcourt of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland is dynamic and should create lots of problems for the Silver and Black, with the only statistic in the Spurs’ favor is that both guards are listed at 6’1”, so the starting backcourt of Jones and Vassell should have a height advantage.

With the early tipoff, I expect the Spurs to sleepwalk through the early part of the game, but if they warm up after a quarter or so, it could be an competitive game. It’s pretty much a given that any game where Wembanyama is on the court will have interesting moments, it’s just a question if there will be enough of them for the Spurs to eke out a road win. Let’s watch and find out.

Game Prediction:

After recent impressive feats of passing to himself off the backboard for a dunk and hitting a one-legged running triple bounce three point shot, Victor will combine the two plays by passing to himself off the backboard to the three point line and hitting a three point hook shot that bounces six times off the rim before rolling in. He will also be fouled on the play.

One final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
