Victor Wembanyama celebrates his twentieth birthday today. The French phenom hit many NBA milestones for a teenager in his first few months in the league.
Wembanyama is the youngest player in NBA history to nab at least 30 points, six rebounds, six assists, and seven blocks in a single game. He did so in eight fewer minutes than any of the other players to reach that mark.
Wembanyama also made NBA history scoring 21 and grabbing 20 rebounds against the Chicago Bulls. At 19 years and 38 days old, he broke the mark previous held by Dwight Howard by four days.
As of this writing, he leads the league in blocks per game. That’s the entire league, not teenagers or rookies. He’s neck and neck with the likes of Brooke Lopez and Anthony Davis in decimating shots.
This is his first birthday as a member of the San Antonio Spurs. The first of many. Hopefully so many we will be amazed.
He’ll spend the night battling the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo as the Spurs face the Milwaukee Bucks for the second time this season.
No matter the outcome (says the Spurs Stan), we should all wish VW a wonderful birthday, with many good wishes, and dunks, blocks, three-pointers, and cake...gotta have the cake.
Happy birthday, Wemby!
