The Spurs have waived two-way center Charles Bediako, per an official press release.
At the same time, it was announced that Bediako had suffered a torn MCL and will miss 6-8 weeks, which likely explains the reason for his waiving.
Former San Antonio Spurs center Charles Bediako suffered a torn left MCL and will miss 6-8 weeks, per his agent Daniel Green of @GreenSportsMgmt.— Chris Haynes (@ChrisBHaynes) December 29, 2023
In a related move the Spurs waived Bediako from his Two-Way contract today.
An All-SEC Tournament and SEC All-Defense honoree, Bediako went undrafted out of the University of Alabama in 2023 before signing with the Spurs’ Summer League team and later signed an exhibition 10 (or training camp) then a two-way contract for the 2023-24 season. He appeared in 11 games with the Austin Spurs, where he averaged 7.7 points and 6.9 rebounds, but he did not appear in any NBA games for San Antonio.
That leaves Dominick Barlow and David Duke Jr. as the Spurs other two-way players. As of the posting of this article, there has not been an announcement of a corresponding move to fill the vacancy left by Bediako, but the Spurs are need of big-man depth with Charles Bassey out for the season and Victor Wembanyama playing it safe on a gimpy ankle. We will keep you informed when/if another signing is made.
Good luck, Charles, and get well soon.
