Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs are home again tonight, and they face the In Season Tournament winning Lakers. The Lakers are fresh off a 125-127 loss to the Mavericks last night, where both teams scored at a level that the Rockets and Spurs could only dream of on Monday might. LeBron, almost 40 years old, played 40 minutes last night, but he’s still expected to be an unstoppable force tonight in the Frost Bank Center. Anthony Davis played about 37 minutes, and there’s a good possibility that Darvin Ham is going to limit his minutes against the reeling Spurs, who haven’t won a game this century. OK, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but my heart tells me that it’s not far off.
The matchup to watch tonight is Wembanyama vs Davis. It’ll be interesting to see how the tall rookie can use his length to control the unibrow, who is having one of his best seasons as a Laker this year. This isn’t a game that the Spurs can expect to win, but weirder things have happened. Mostly, we will look to see how well individual players can keep up with their tinseltown counterparts on the court, and also to see if anyone on the Spurs team besides Doug McDermott has learned how to shoot since Monday night.
This game will be on NBATV, so once again a national audience will be subjected to watching a Spurs game against a superior opponent. Let’s hope the Spurs can make it watchable, because the game of Friday will be on ESPN.
Victor will block Anthony Davis so many times that he will start trimming his eyebrows.
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
