It’s time for Basketball: Spurs at Nuggets

San Antonio plays the former champs in Denver tonight

NBA: Denver Nuggets at San Antonio Spurs Scott Wachter-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

After 11 losses in a row, it might be time to admit that the Spurs aren’t very good this year, despite adding one of the best prospects in many years in this year’s draft. Sometimes, even great players take some time before having an impact, and Victor Wembanyama at age 19 isn’t breaking that trend, at least 20% of the way through his first season in the NBA.

After some promising almost-wins (a.k.a. losses) against the Clippers and Warriors in the last couple of game, they face the champs tonight in their home arena. This is the kind of game that you should probably write off as a loss, but the Nuggets have had a bit of a slow start so far, with a 10-6 record and two consecutive losses coming into tonight’s game.

A matchup with the Spurs has been the get right game for several teams so far, with the Clippers picking up their first two road wins in San Antonio, and the Warriors having lost six out of seven before taking out the Silver and Black on Friday night. The Nuggets are looking to get themselves into a winning frame of mind tonight, and the Spurs will have to play a much more consistent game than they have so far this year to keep that from happening.

The Spurs have been very inconsistent this year, so if you don’t watch tonight, you might say that you missed the night that Victor Wembanyama played a game that lived up to the hype. Or you might miss another game where the Spurs once again fail to put it together. Do you want to take that chance? I know I won’t. See you in the game thread.

Game Prediction:

Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama will form a comedy duo based on Abbot and Costello after the game.

One final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
