Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The last time the Spurs played the Clippers, holding a lead wasn’t a problem, since the Clippers put an end-to-end whipping on the young Silver and Black squad and won 123-83 against a mostly healthy Spurs squad, holding Victor Wembanyama to just 11 points on their way to outscoring San Antonio in all four quarters.
The Clippers have added James Harden since then to their rosters, moving one step closer to monopolizing the market for aging superstars who need the ball the ball in their hands to be effective. Incorporating Harden into their rotation hasn’t been a perfectly smooth process, as the Clippers have only won a single game since acquiring him on October 1, on Friday night against the Rockets. In that game, Harden scored 24 points, including a 4 point play with six seconds left that iced the game for LA. That’s not an encouraging trend line for Spurs fans watching tonight’s game.
The young Spurs have had trouble handling crafty veteran play this year, with even well-past-his-prime Derrick Rose causing fits for the young lineup. Tonight is a chance for them to step up and show that they can complete with the superstars of the past, and give Kawhi Leonard a proper welcome on his return to the team he started his NBA career with. But if that doesn’t work out, we roll it all back for a rematch on Wednesday night, also in the Frost Bank Center. The last time the Spurs played two games in the same arena against the same team back to back, it worked out OK. Let’s see how they do tonight, because it sure would be nice to end this losing streak.
This game is on KENS5, so if you’re in the San Antonio or Austin area, you should be able to watch this game over the air if you have an antenna attached to your television receiver. If you don’t have an antenna, you should get one.
Game Prediction:
Harden and Westbrook will both try to possess the ball off the opening tip, which will result in a tie-up, and the first ever jump ball between teammates.
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
