working from the memory files here (which i readily admit are quite fragmented, so bear with me): post duncan, leonard was the spurs' heir apparent; he abdicated with fury. aldridge became the next franchise cornerstone, but he aged out before the spurs could build around him. that burden fell to derozan, and he/they failed. next up was murray--the spurs hung onto him as the next franchise cornerstone for perhaps one year too many, until it became clear that he was the sort to build with and not around, and off he went on his disgrunteld way. the mantle then fell to primo, and that exploded in tragedy before it could begin. so much for history ...
so here the spurs sit with a potential top 5 pick in the next draft. excluding wembanaya (an obvious franchise cornerstone), do they 'reach' to pick a player that would compliment sochan as a 'cornerstone' or do they seek to get a 'cornerstone' per se and hope sochan can fit in with him? i.e., build around sochan or build around their next pick? looking at building a contending team in 25-26 ...
