After a rousing version of “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?” DeMar DeRozan is in fact leaving San Antonio and heading to Chicago via sign-and-trade with the Bulls.
Whether you were of the belief he should stay or of the thinking that it was time for both DeRozan and the Spurs to move on, one thing is certain, DeMar deserves gratitude and respect from Spurs Nation.
It is unfortunate that DeRozan’s skill set did not tie the team together. As the youth movement takes aims to flourish, DeRozan is taking advantage of free agency to both get paid and to position himself to join as contender. He did not, as early reports suggested, end up in either Los Angeles team (both should be favored to win a title this year). But Chicago did make some savvy moves to become relevant at a quicker pace than many other Eastern Conference teams this offseason.
He may be packing (or packed), but for the moment, location and jersey shouldn’t matter.
Let’s all with DeMar DeRozan a happy birthday and best wishes on his next adventure.
