NBA Free Agency is about to begin (5:00 PM CT), and the rumors are starting to swirl. For the Spurs, most of them are centered around free agent DeMar DeRozan. The two main destinations being discussed as of now is the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls, both of which would likely require a sign-and-trade.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Heat have spoken to the Spurs about a possible sign-and-trade between Andre Iguodala (they reportedly would like to keep Duncan Robinson) for DeRozan to trigger a reunion with Kyle Lowry, but the Spurs reportedly responded that there was potentially a better offer on the table. Windhorst deduces that the better offer is a double sign-and-trade with the Chicago Bulls that would send DeRozan there and power forward Lauri Markkanen to the Spurs — with the “double” part being both teams would sign their respective players before trading them.

This is likely just one of many options we’ll hear about. Negotiations can begin today, but contracts cannot be signed until Friday, August 6 at 11AM CT.
