It’s time for Summer League: Spurs vs. Nets

Tre Jones has been dominating, but will he even play today?

NBA: Summer League-San Antonio Spurs at Charlotte Hornets Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

The Spurs finally won a Summer League game on Thursday behind a dominant Tre Jones performance as they edged the Hornets 106-105. Josh Primo hasn’t played much in SL, but he could play today, but the team has been very cautious about putting players in jeopardy in meaningless contests like these Summer League games. It’s a learning opportunity for the youngest player in Vegas, but he won’t be allowed on the court if he isn’t at 100%. Devin Vassell likewise could use some reps, but I’d be surprised if he plays today. [NOTE: I get surprised all of the time.]

Las Vegas Summer League is winding down, with only 2 days of action left. The Spurs will play their final game in SL tomorrow, at 4PM CT against the Thunder. Win or lose, this has been a successful summer for the Silver and Black, and if you have NBATV, this is a chance to see some guys who aren’t likely to see much time on the floor in San Antonio, except for Jones and Vassell, who should be in the rotation. The rookies, Wieskamp and Primo, will probably be in Austin most of this season, and I doubt anyone else on the SL squad makes it past training camp.

One final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
