Second-year guards Devin Vassell and Tre Jones didn’t get a chance to play Summer League basketball a year ago after COVID-19 forced the league to cancel the annual event.
But Vassell and Jones will join 2021 first and second-round rookies Josh Primo and Joe Wieskamp as they headline what should be a talented group capable of competing for Summer League hardware.
There are some familiar faces on the roster, including Austin alumni Jaylen Morris, Anthony Mathis, Nate Renfro, and Kaleb Johnson, brother of third-year forward Keldon Johnson.
Journeyman Skal Labissière, waiver-wire acquisition DaQuan Jeffries, and Justin Robinson, son of Silver and Black legend David Robinson will also play for the Spurs in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
Former 19th overall pick Luka Samanic will not participate in Summer League as he continues rehabbing a hand injury suffered against the Brooklyn Nets near the end of last season.
Luka Samanic is not expected to play Summer League basketball with the Spurs so he can continue rehabbing a hand injury in preparation for the upcoming season, per a source close to the situation.

Mitch Johnson will be the head coach for the Spurs in Salt Lake City. He was promoted to a lead assistant on Gregg Popovich’s staff after Tim Duncan stepped down from the position during the 2020 offseason.
