Last night in Dallas, DeMar DeRozan’s first basket was enough to elevate him past Boston Celtics legendary big man Kevin McHale.

He did it on his first make. But that wasn’t his best shot of the night.

McHale retired with 17,335 career points. He spent his entire thirteen season career with the Boston Celtics. Alongside Larry Bird, Boston won three NBA Championships while exciting the basketball world with the historic Celtics/Lakers rivalry that dominated the 1980s.

Bird, McHale and Robert Parrish are the second winningest NBA trio in history behind Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker. (Never miss an opportunity to drop that tidbit into a conversation.)

Since retiring, Kevin McHale has been seen as an NBA analyst. He worked in the Minnesota Timberwolves office vefore starting his head coaching career. He eventually ended up with Spurs rivals the Houston Rockets.

Next on the list for DeMar DeRozan is Steve Nash, the current Brooklyn Nets figurehead. If DeMar stays within his margin of error, he’ll surpass the two-time MVP by the end of the week.
