Gorgui Dieng intends to sign with the San Antonio Spurs upon clearing waivers, per Marc Stein of The New York Times.
Stein also reports the Knicks, Suns, Clippers, Sixers, Raptors, Heat, and the Nets also pursued the veteran center.
Dieng averaged 7.9 points per game on 51.9% shooting from the field in 22 contests for the Memphis Grizzlies before being waived on March 26.
After the Spurs bought out LaMarcus Aldridge on Friday, Jakob Poeltl and Drew Eubanks were the only centers left on San Antonio’s depth chart.
Hitting 47.9% of his three-point attempts this season, Dieng should supply the Silver and Black with a stretch-five dynamic off the bench.
The six-ten big man has spent eight seasons in the league after being drafted 21st overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2013 NBA Draft.
While details surrounding the contract are not yet available, a one-year veteran’s minimum deal seems to be the most likely scenario for PATFO.
