Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
Tonight the Spurs play their second makeup game of the season, this time against the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by the super quick Collin Sexton. The Spurs are undefeated in makeup games this year, 1-0 with the win against the Pistons earlier this week. They hope to keep it going tonight with the return of DeMar DeRozan to the lineup. Normally, you’d expect a player to be rusty with that much time off, but DeMar showed earlier this season that he can play at a high level no matter how long he’s been off the court, when he burst out for a 32 point effort against the Pelicans on February 27. The Spurs defense has been improving lately, and with DeRozan returning to initiate the offense, maybe tonight the Spurs won’t start the game by giving the other team a big lead. But then again, if’s fun when Jakob Poeltl and Patty Mills can bring the team back from the edge of the abyss, and Dejounte Murray makes the shot that puts the Spurs in the lead for the first time with just a few minutes left on the clock. But let’s not do that every night, because it’s too hard on Coach Pop.
Cleveland in 2007, a place almost like heaven, Four games to zero, Tony Parker was the hero. But that’s all just past glory, the Spurs are starting a new story.
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
