Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
Tonight’s contest between the Sixers and Spurs has both teams missing their best player, but it’s pretty well accepted that Philly has more talent and experience, even without Joel Embiid. The Spurs are missing the leadership of Demar DeRozan, but after a slow start on Friday, the young core shut down the short-handed Orlando Magic for three quarters and won going away. It’s going to be interesting to find out if the Silver and Black can build on that performance from Dejounte Murray, Jakob Poeltl, Rudy Gay against a much tougher level of competition. Derrick White started to show signs of breaking out of his post-Covid offensive slump with a pair of back to back threes in the last game, so it will be interesting to see if that trend continues tonight. There’s no rest for the wicked, because after today’s game, they get on the team plane to head for tomorrow’s game against the Pistons in Detroit.
Nobody thought the Spurs could beat the Sixers, but Keldon, Dejounte, and Derrick are the fixers, they feed winning like magic elixirs.
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
