Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs escaped with a win on Saturday against the Rockets, as DeMar DeRozan took advantage of an overly aggressive Houston defense to ice the game with free throws. Tonight, the Silver and Black faces Steph Curry and the rejuvenated Warriors, who split a pair with the Mavericks a few days ago, but probably should have won both. The Warriors put a 121-99 world of hurt on the Spurs last time they met, and their quality of play without Klay Thompson has just been improving since then. Super rookie James Wiseman will be out tonight, so their only weakness is the lack of rim protection, which DeMar DeRozan and Dejounte Murray should be able to take advantage of. Dejounte and Derrick White will be tasked with keeping Curry from torching the Spurs three point defense, which has been below par so far this season. The Spurs play the Warriors again tomorrow night, and then they will be going on the road for their annual Rodeo Road trip, so it’s important for the good guys to play well to keep San Antonio in the playoff mix in the unforgiving Western Conference of the NBA.
The ball gets launched in a hurry, whenever it’s in the hands of Stephen Curry. The rock moves so fast, the motion is almost blurry, our best hope to slow it is the quickness of Dejounte Murray. But as surely as the Coyote is furry, the Spurs have got this, so there’s no need for worry.
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
