Mariah Carey tweets approval of Spurs singing her “We Belong Together” on Valentine’s Day

If you missed last night’s telecast (or the Fox Sport Southwest coverage, at least) you may have missed a special Valentine’s Day edition of the timeout non-commercial filler involving the members of the San Antonio Spurs attempting to figure out the lyrics to Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together.”

DeMar DeRozan, Dejounte Murray, Lonnie Walker IV, Derrick White, Devin Vassell, Drew Eubanks, Rudy Gay, and Patty Mills all offered various renditions. Even Jakob Poeltl, who later admitted that when he heard American music the first time he didn’t speak the language and only sang alone phonetically, knew the lyrics.

Mills said, “This song has Keldon Johnson written all over it” before cutting to practice of the Spurs warming up and the Mustang singing along in the Spurs practice facility. KJ admitted, “I know the whole song.”

The five-time Grammy Award winning songstress reacted on social media with approval.

And while Mariah Carey approved of the Spurs, fans approved of her acknowledgement.

Don’t count on the Spurs amassing a chorale to perform at halftime during the Rodeo Road Trip as I am sure they would be best advised to keep their day jobs.

The Spurs have won both games on this extended trip away from the Alamo City and are keeping themselves busy as best they can between games.

For now, stick to playing basketball, Silver & Black. When it comes to singing, don’t call us, we’ll call you.
