The Spurs try to keep on a winning note in an early afternoon contest in Portland

NBA: San Antonio Spurs at Portland Trail Blazers Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

As part of the Martin Luther King Day slate of games, the Silver and Black are in Portland to face Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers in Oregon. After splitting a pair at home against the trade-devastated Rockets, the Spurs can’t feel too confident against Portland, but the likely absences of CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic evens the odds a bit. Hopefully, LaMarcus Aldridge can have a bounceback game against his former team, and the Spurs can continue to benefit from DeMar DeRozan’s clutch play and the solid play of the young guns on the roster. This will be a great chance for Keldon Johnson and Dejounte Murray to show a larger than usual holiday audience the kind of play that has San Antonio with a winning record and in the playoff hunt.

One final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
