Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
Here’s an amazing fact: The San Antonio Spurs have never lost an NBA game played inside a bubble, and they can keep it going tonight if they can put together the kind of gritty effort they had against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon. The Silver and Black didn’t play a perfect game against Memphis, but they played with a lot of energy and emotional resilience, and those are the qualities that carried them to a win which puts them into the 9th place play-in position, with a chance to make the playoffs for the 23rd year in a row.
Tonight’s game is the second game of a virtual road back to back (SEGAVIROBABA), and virtual Philly is always a tough place to play, with the virtual booing and cursing from the fans. At least the virtual cheesesteaks are great.
The Sixers have talented bigs, with Joel Embiid and Al Horford, while the Spurs depend heavily on Jakob Poeltl who often plays as the sole big with 4 perimeter players. The good news is that the big Austrian should be well-rested tonight after sitting out most of Sunday’s game with foul trouble. This will be a tough game for the Silver and Black, so let’s all gather around the TV sets and computer screens and cheer the good guys to a win. Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
