Two days after the Spurs were eliminated from playoff contention for the first time in 22 years, a report has come out claiming that the Nets will pursue Gregg Popovich as their next head coach.
Although this might sound alarming, there shouldn’t be any need for concern. Pop is one of the greatest coaches of all-time and has been pursued in the past, but has always decided to stay in San Antonio. Already 71, it’s hard to imagine him making the biggest move of his career when he’ll likely retire in a few years.
Moreover, Pop hasn’t shown a desire to leave the Spurs even after missing the playoffs. In fact, he’s stated that he’s excited about where the team is headed as they almost made the play-in tournament even in the absence of two starters.
Taking everything into consideration, there shouldn’t be any concern regarding Pop’s future; rest easy Spurs nation, he’s here to stay.
