After four months without, Spurs fans were limited to just two weeks of basketball

For the first time in 23 years, the Silver & Black are done before the postseason begins.

Let’s start with gratitude. Grateful for all the wonderful seasons the Spurs have pulled off over our lifetime. Grateful they were invited to Orlando in the first place. Grateful that the bubble and these last eight games offered a glimmer of what is to come. Grateful the Spurs were still in the running until minutes before their last game, keeping it interesting. I think we all have to admit, it was an unexpectedly intense fourteen days.

This just wasn’t their season. How many times have Spurs fans really had to say that?

But until 5:30 yesterday, their fate was tied to three other teams playing in determining games. Two of those three, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Phoenix Suns, won their games and sealed the Spurs fate before San Antonio tipped off against the Utah Jazz.

Memphis locked a spot. But Phoenix sat on pins and needles while Portland played the late game against the Brooklyn Nets. A one point win for the Trail Blazers ended Phoenix’s season and their impressive 8-0 Orlando run.

Now basketball fans have to root for either the 8th seed Portland Trail Blazers or the 9th seed Memphis Grizzles. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there will be a “play-in tournament” for the 8th seed for the first time in NBA history.

Portland needs to win only one game in order to face the Los Angeles Lakers. But if the Grizzlies win both games, Damian Lillard and company will head home empty handed.

So, who you got for this one, Pounders? Who will claim the 8th and final spot? Who will face LeBron James and the Lakers in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs?
