San Antonio Spurs fans have grown accustomed to Lonnie Walker IV’s blinding speed and explosive athleticism, but his most identifiable trait is by far his trademark hairstyle. That’s why it came as a surprise to many when the second-year swingman announced his signature coiffure would soon be getting a trim.
We’re gonna see a new Lonnie Walker IV when the San Antonio Spurs and NBA resume play in late July.

Looks like the second-year shooting guard is trimming his signature hair after growing it out for SIX years. pic.twitter.com/suhShigiyP
Lonnie teased the Silver and Black faithful with a photoshop preview of a fade via Snapchat on Wednesday afternoon, and by the end of the night, his unmistakable pineappleseque hairdo was mowed right off his noggin. The springy two-guard claims to have grown out his lovely locks since fifth grade, which means his mane was about a DECADE in the making.

Despite a video clearly showing a barber going to town with a pair of clippers, Lonnie took his time revealing his new look. Whether or not he plans on maintaining this length is unclear, though, with the NBA season set to resume by the end of July, the wait to witness the highly anticipated debut of his fresh cut isn’t far off.

Walker’s iconic head of hair may be gone, but we will always have this legendary floating hat draft night photo of the former 18th overall pick to cherish for eternity. The 21-year-old is onto the next period in his follicle fashion, and if we’re lucky, perhaps improved aerodynamics will bring an enhanced performance on the hardwood.
