Next Saturday, the Spurs face the Minnesota Timberwolves. But starting today, you can bid on jerseys that are to be worn during that contest. And the best part is the funds collected from the auction go to fund the jerseys needed for the Spurs Youth Basketball League.
Spurs Give is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Spurs Youth Basketball League (SYBL) by hosting a “Jersey for Jersey” auction that includes autographed game-worn jerseys from the Spurs vs. Timberwolves game on March 14. The online auction will begin March 7 at 10 a.m. CT and will run through March 14 at 10 p.m. CT. All proceeds from the auction will go towards purchasing jerseys for participating students in the Spurs Youth Basketball League.
You can place bids on your phone by texting “Spursjersey” to 76278. You can also go directly to the Spurs Give site: spursgive.org/jersey. Bid updates will be available online as well as by text. For a full list of auction items, click here.
SYBL was founded in 1990 by current Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich and Kids Sports Network President and Founder Frank Martin. SYBL, then known as the Drug-Free League, was launched to promote recreational youth basketball in economically disadvantaged areas of San Antonio, since impacting over 420,000 kids and coaches across 23 sites in the past three decades.
Each year, 10,000 children who normally do not have the financial means to participate in basketball camps do so through the generosity of Spurs Give and its partners in the SYBL- Pizza Hut and the John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation, a fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation. The camps teach youngsters to play basketball, improve their athletic skills, learn teamwork and shape discipline through positive reinforcement in a safe environment.
So get your bids in now as you money will go to a great cause continuing community building in San Antonio. And cheer on the Spurs as they face the Timberwolves next Saturday. Afterward, that signed jersey just might be yours.
