Tim Duncan will coach the Spurs against the Hornets

Pop is out for personal reasons but will return in Brooklyn.

It’s finally happening, something fans have dreamed about since 1997: Tim Duncan is going to be the head coach of the Spurs — at least for one night. Gregg Popovich will miss tonight’s game against the Charlotte Hornets for personal reasons, and Duncan will be acting head coach (although he still won’t talk to the media; that’s Will Hardy’s job).

Pop is expected to rejoin the team in Brooklyn for Friday’s game against the Nets. Also of note, Charlotte’s leading scorer Devonte Graham will miss tonight’s game with an ankle injury, so the odds of the Spurs giving Timmy his first win as a head coach have increased.
