Houston Texans owner Cal McNair has added San Antonio Spurs CEO R.C. Buford to his five-person advisory group to assist in searching for a new head coach and general manager, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

San Antonio’s former general manager joins a star-studded cast made up of Hall of Fame coaches Tony Dungy and Jimmy Johnson, Fritz Pollard Alliance executive director Rod Graves, and the Texans’ all-time receiving leader Andre Johnson.

And who wouldn’t want advice from one of the greatest minds in sports? During his time as the Spurs’ general manager, Buford won four NBA championships, two Executive of the Year Awards, and he maintained a standard of playoff excellence that spanned two decades.

After firing head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien just four weeks into the NFL season, the Texans are now under the guidance of interim head coach Romeo Crennel and entirely without a general manager to build their roster.

Houston is at a befuddling organizational crossroads, but with the help of Buford and the rest of the Texans’ well-respected ensemble of advisors, they might have a shot at restoring order in their front office and translating that stability to the field.
