Enjoying the holiday cheer at the AT&T Center

Basketball season is near, later than usual but coming nonetheless.

In the meantime, the AT&T Center has transformed itself into a winter wonderland, which is saying something considering this is southwest Texas.

For those of you within the area, it is worth the trip. The lines are short, the cocoa is piping hot (there is also lemonade and margaritas for sale), and the lights are spectacular.

My wife and daughter and I took the trip last Sunday night and were able to take the mile drive through the parking lot replete with elves, fairies, a brief flurry of snow, and a tribute to “The Twelve Days of Christmas” (can you name all twelve?).

The light tunnel is particularly breath-taking and requires the added focus of driving in a not-so-straight line while the tunnel changes tempo and color at will.

The lit orbs change color and set the tone of the entire trek as their hues fill the area around your vehicle, momentarily removing you from here and taking you “there.”

There is an option to have your photo taken — in or out of your vehicle. It is a digital keepsake and a reminder of one little family getaway full of smiles in a highly altered year.
