It was a long time coming, but the 2020 NBA Draft finally happened, and the Spurs spent the 11th pick (and their first lottery selection since 1997) on Florida State sophomore Devin Vassell. League experts universally praised PATFO’s decision, and fans have largely welcomed the wiry wing with open arms, although there’s still a concern that his skillset is pretty repetitive with the Spurs’ currently full stable of guards.

I personally loved the pick, and I explain why in my latest video, where I am joined by Draft Analyst and fellow Pounding the Rock contributor Aneesh Namburi via Zoom. We discuss why Vassell was the right pick for the Spurs, what he brings to the team, how he can earn minutes in Gregg Popovich’s rotation during his rookie season, why he’s the perfect complement to the Spurs’ young core, and much more.
