Report: DeMar DeRozan is opting in to the final year of his contract with the Spurs

DeRozan is still a Spur...for now.

In the first official Spurs-related move of the long-anticipated 2020 offseason, it is being reported that DeMar DeRozan will opt in to the final year of his contract with the San Antonio Spurs. He is set to make $27.7 million this upcoming season, not counting potential escrow due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This move should come as no surprise considering this is not an ideal time for players seeking large paydays to hit the market due to financial losses incurred from the pandemic and many teams lacking the cap space. This also works out in the Spurs favor as they can still potentially trade DeRozan instead of losing him for nothing, whether it’s around the draft or closer to the trade deadline. Stay tuned.
