This will be the worst finish in Team USA’s history.

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

Team USA lost two in a row and now are fighting for seventh place, their worst ending ever. The turn to this FIBA World Cup prompted Jerry Coangelo to speak out.

“I can only say, you can’t help but notice and remember who you thought you were going to war with and who didn’t show up,” Colangelo said. “I’m a firm believer that you deal with the cards you’re dealt. All we could have done, and we did it, is get the commitments from a lot of players. So with that kind of a hand you feel reasonably confident that you’re going to be able to put a very good representative team on the court. No one would have anticipated the pull-outs that we had.”

Some of the players who turned their back on this summer’s games may not have the opportunity to join the Tokyo Olympic roster.

It’s a shame that some of the biggest names in basketball wouldn’t or didn’t show up. But for those who did, it speaks volumes to their grit. And for Spurs fans, the many who stayed away left room for a player like Derrick White to continue to shine and show his growth on the international level.

So, who are you rooting for in the Finals- Spain or Argentina?
