DeMarre Carroll celebrates his 33rd birthday

And his first in the Alamo City

NBA: Playoffs-Brooklyn Nets at Philadelphia 76ers Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Spurs did quite well in free agency considering San Antonio is not a prime destination for players looking for big money and commercial endorsements.

After locking in Rudy Gay, PATFO reached out to DeMarre Carroll, who is that perfect mixture of strong rotation player, postseason experience, and “over himself.”

At thirty-three, Carroll looks down the road toward the end of his NBA career. He’s a smart, physical player, and is probably adept enough to know that head coach Gregg Popovich will manage his minutes and let him finish out his tenure while utilizing his best attributes.

But Carroll’s contributions are far from over, as he keeps some of the best players on their toes. Enjoy this highlight reel from last March. DeMarre hits threes, moves well on fast breaks, and is physically aggressive in the paint. In particular, he outwits Montrezl Harrell, which is no easy feat.

Happy birthday, DeMarre. Welcome to San Antonio. We are looking forward to you being suited up this season.
