It’s time for Spurs vs Mavericks

The Spurs need a win to preserve playoff position in what might be Dirk Nowitzki’s final NBA game

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

This is it, the final game of the regular season. This will be an emotional night for the Mavericks, who are anticipating that this might be Dirk Nowitzki’s final game, even though he hasn’t made a formal announcement yet. But the Spurs need a win tonight to eliminate the chance of slipping into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, which would mean a difficult matchup with the talented Golden State Warriors. LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan need to give a good sendoff to Dirk while securing a win for the Silver and Black. The Spurs will have a few days off before they face their (as yet unknown) first round playoff opponent, so there’s no reason for Gregg Popovich to rest anyone. But does he really need a reason? Let’s find out tonight. Go Spurs GO!
