Despite not being traded by the Spurs as he requested, Pau Gasol did have something positive to say about his former Memphis Grizzlies at the trade deadline. Tom Orsborn reported:
Pau Gasol grateful Grizzlies traded both him and his brother to title contenders: “It speaks highly of the Grizzlies…I think that’s an appreciation and a great sign of respect for the player." #Spurs https://t.co/mMiKi5jpCF

Pau Gasol was with the Memphis Grizzlies until he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for his brother Marc in 2008. Pau went on win two titles with the Lakers.
Marc Gasol was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, C.J. Miles and a 2024 second-round pick. Marc is now positioned to make a title run with Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, and the Toronto Raptors.
“It speaks highly of the Grizzlies . . . how they put me in a position to succeed and (are) doing the same with Marc. I think that’s an appreciation and a great sign of respect for the player. Obviously, they had to get their stuff in return, and players in return. But I think it’s a great opportunity for Marc in Toronto, and I hope he will be happy there.”- Pau Gasol
Tonight, the Spurs meet the Grizzlies in what is likely to more readily resemble a 2017 Raptor’s scrimmage.
