Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Silver and Black suffered their first loss of the season last night against Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers in Los Angeles, and they won’t have much time to recover as they head to San Francisco tonight to face the Golden State Warriors, who are facing their own troubles. They were already facing a lot of turnover in their lineup this year with the loss of Kevin Durant to free agency and Klay Thompson’s extended absence with a knee injury, but they also lost several other key veterans like Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston. Their current veteran core consists of Draymond Green and Steph Curry, and thanks to an unfortunate run-in with former Spur Aron Baynes, Steph is now out indefinitely with a broken hand. This is a team that, on paper, looks like an easy Spurs win, even on the road.
But hold up a minute. This isn’t necessarily a gimme for the Silver and Black. Dejounte Murray is resting on the second day of a back to back. Pop’s lineups this year have been puzzling, and even though the team has just looked terrible at times, although they’ve also looked great at times. Derrick White should get the start tonight at the point, and you hope that Lonnie Walker IV somehow manages to get playing time after Pop tore into his performance after last night’s game. We know that Demar DeRozan will be fine, and this game might present a great chance for the bench to go off, perhaps Patty Mills will get hot from beyond the arc. Maybe tonight is the night that Marco Belinelli starts to hit some shots. If not, why does Pop keep playing him? Stay tuned, and GO Spurs GOoOOO!
