At the AT&T Center on Sunday, Jakob Poeltl scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 20 minutes of play against Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans. From all the way up in Section 200, my six-year-old daughter made an astute observation that made my wife and I laugh out loud.
“Geez, is Jakob Poeltl sunburnt again?”
His complexion was definitely ruddy and spotty, taking us back to last March when he took to the court fully reddened, sunglasses tan emblazoned after he fell asleep tanning.

Jakob got five blocks that night and returned from the bench with extra protection for his arms against the flailing skin-on-skin contact of Knicks defenders.
Unfamiliarity with the sunscreening techniques in Texas notwithstanding, the big man continues to make progress on the court and should be taking on a bigger role this season after earning respect and playing time last season.
So wish our fair European friend a happy birthday and send him a vat of SPF 3000 as the Texas summers are lengthening, and we want him here for a long time to come.
Happy birthday, Jakob.
