What if.... sacrificing Tony for Kawhi

As my last posts make clear, Kawhi Leonard is NOT my favorite player right now.

Over time I’ve come to think his actions are selfish and disrespectful to the organization that helped make him the superstar he is today.

But.... here is an interesting hypothetical:

Reports are suggesting Tony Parker’s comments about his injury being worse and trusting the Spurs medical staff pushed Kawhi over the edge.

Tony Parker is 36 years old and never regained his prior form after returning from a quadriceps tendon rupture.

Tony Parker made $14 mill last year and hasn’t been clear about whether he would take a significant pay cut similar to Ginobili. I would argue he has less value than Ginobili because of how there games and relative effectiveness differ. Many can still alter games. Parker is at best a backup point guard who can mentor younger players.

It’s day 1 of free agency and the Spurs have signed Marco Belinelli and Rudy Gay. No word on Tony Parker.

If you’re RC Buford.... would you let Parker sign elsewhere if that would appease Leonard and make him more comfortably returning to the Spurs locker room?

From what I remember, aside from some of Pop’s comments... which I think he can patch his relationship with Kawhi... the other Spurs players from Danny Green to Manu Gjnobili to Pau Gasol were all generally supportive.

What do you think?
