As rumors regarding the fate of Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs continue to spread (mostly at the hands of “anonymous” sources and NBA execs), teams are lining up to try and pursue the Spurs’ franchise player this summer.
However, the Spurs are still resisting the force under the assumption that they can work things out with Leonard.
“You can never say done because everybody thought that the Aldridge thing was over and that there was no chance to salvage that,” one of the people said. “Pop went in and smoothed it over. You can’t underestimate the power of the Pop in these situations.”
Exactly. You can’t underestimate the power of Pop. If any one can fix this situation it’s Gregg Popovich. He did it before with Tim Duncan and again last summer with LaMarcus Aldridge, who doesn’t have nearly as big of a relationship or the same connection with the Spurs as Leonard does.
The Spurs aren’t going to stop trying unless they get a flat out rejection from Leonard. Then they’re going to do everything to make things right, and in the mean time everyone else is just going to have to wait their turn — if it ever comes at all.
