Davis Bertans and Livio Jean-Charles join the Spurs Las Vegas Summer League team

The Spurs make a surprise announcement with the release of their Las Vegas roster.

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Spurs announced that Davis Bertans and Livio Jean-Charles would be playing in Las Vegas, and just like that San Antonio's Summer League team just got a lot more interesting. And it's not like it wasn't already packed with anticipation, seeing as first round draft pick Dejounte Murray was already certain to join the Utah Summer League Big Three of Kyle Anderson, Jonathon Simmons and Bryn Forbes.

The news is surprising because there was doubt about whether Bertans had even signed a contract. Now the Spurs routinely let several days pass before offering an official press release (they just came out earlier today to say that Boris Diaw was traded to the Jazz) but there's usually some small leak in the form of a Tweet from a reliable source that the signing had happened. That wasn't the case this time.

So the announcement of the Las Vegas roster was a bit less routine than usually, since it wasn't certain that Bertans and Jean-Charles would participate in Summer League games even if they were signed.

Now there's even more anticipation for tomorrow's first Vegas game against the Summer Golden State Warriors at 9:30 pm CDT on ESPN2.
