San Antonio mayor declares Thursday, July 21st 'Tim Duncan Day'

Mayor Ivy Taylor is honoring the newly retired Spur with his own day. It's kind of like The Purge, but not at all really.

A few weeks have passed for the news of Duncan's retirement to sink in, making it as good a time as any for the city of San Antonio to honor its most famous sports figure. San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor has declared Thursday, July 21st 'Tim Duncan Day', with Duncan sharing the date with Neil Armstrong's moon landing and Herostratus' burning of the Temple of Artemis.

Here's what Mayor Taylor had to say about the celebration:

"Tim may not be comfortable with all the attention, but I do think he deserves it. Besides being one of the greatest players of all time, he's also an outstanding role model. He taught us how to work hard, win and remain humble. He truly fits the definition of champion, and what better way to honor our most decorated champion than by declaring July 21 as Tim Duncan Day? It will allow fans everywhere to show him just how much he means to us, to our City and to the sports world."

Of course there's nothing to say that people outside South Texas can't celebrate, too. So put on your loosest fitting button-down, forward a funny chain email to a friend, and have yourself a sensible #TimDuncanDay.
