The Spurs selected University of Massachusetts power forward Cady Lalanne with the 55th pick in the draft.
Lalanne is originally from Haiti but played four years in UMass, where he posted career averages of 16 points, 13 rebounds and over two blocks per 40 minutes before entering the draft. He improved every year he was in college and has very good physical tools, standing at 6'9" and with a 7'5" wingspan.
The reason why Lalanne fell deep into the second round is because he's 23 years old already and has not developed a polished skill set yet, relying on his athleticism to get things done and taking advantage of his physical advantages in the post.
It's unlikely Lalanne makes the team but he will play in the Spurs' Summer League squad, according to R.C. Buford, and could be an interesting draft-and-stash option if he's willing to go to Europe.
His combination of rebounding and shot-blocking ability could prove to make him a valuable long term project if he refines his other skills. At 55th, that's all anyone could ask.
Here are some highlight's from Lalanne's college career.
