Game Preview: San Antonio Spurs at Miami Heat

After an impressive three-game stand at home, the Spurs will take on two South Florida teams over the next two days. First up: an injury-riddled Heat team with eyes on the playoffs.

The last time these teams played in Miami, there was slightly more on the line. That doesn't mean either team will hold anything back, as they both aspire towards success in late April.

The Spurs have been one of the hottest teams in the league, rallying to sole ownership of the sixth seed in the wild West. Meanwhile, the Heat have weathered a storm of injuries, beginning with the loss of Chris Bosh, that had some counting them out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Yet there they are in seventh place, with star Dwyane Wade showing flashes of his dominant play as of late.

The Heat have been a tough out at home this season, and have benefited from the arrival of Goran Dragic, acquired from Phoenix at the trade deadline. Dragic gives Miami a backcourt that can pick-and-roll with the best of them, and the Heat like to spread it out and start their PnR's far from the basket. They're not a deep team, but trust Erik Spoelstra to get the most out of this lineup.

The Heat have been without breakout center Hassan Whiteside (hand) the last handful of games. It's possible he returns tonight, which will be a boon to a team that's relied on Udonis Haslem anchoring the interior. Whiteside has displayed a prodigious nose for the ball around the basket, blocking shots left and right and finishing well on the other end. With him in the lineup, Miami can really mix things up defensively. Without him, the Heat will likely be overwhelmed both inside and out.
