NBA virtual 1-on-1 Tournament: Russell Westbrook vs Klay Thompson

Russell Westbrook has the potential to win this tournament, but he is going to have a hard time escaping round one.

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The next matchup in the 1-on-1 Summer Showdown is between one of the most athletic players in the league in Russell Westbrook and one of the biggest dark horses, Klay Thompson.

The Rules

It is a half court game in which the is 1 point for everything inside the arc, and 2 points outside the arc. So long-distance bombers have an advantage in our tourney.  The higher seed stars off with the ball and the first player to 11 points wins. The possession switches every time the ball is scored, and your votes determine the winner.

Russell Westbrook (3rd Seed)

This format is custom made for Westbrook. He can make jump shots from in front of and beyond the arc, he can finish at the rim, he is blazing fast and he is an above average defender. His insane athleticism gives him a fighter's chance against anyone in this tournament. This first matchup will be a very tricky one for Westbrook, despite his great skill set.

Klay Thompson is a player that can beat everyone thanks to his three point shot and above-average defense. He will put a lot of pressure on Westbrook to not miss many shots, and he can force missed shots. Westbrook will have to play right up on Klay the entire game, which will take a lot of energy and effort.

Klay Thompson (6th Seed)

If you want to talk about a player that can make a Cinderella run, this is the guy to talk about.

Klay Thompson has one advantage on Stephen Curry, probably the best three point shooter in this tournament. He is a much, much better defender than Curry. In this tournament, being able to get a stop is crucial. If Thompson can get hot, his opponent can kiss his championship hopes goodbye.

In this matchup, Westbrook can utilize his speed and athleticism to get stops. He will be able to pester Thompson, making him not be able to get into a groove. Thompson will have to establish the threat of driving so he can open up the three point shot. He has to keep Westbrook on his heels.
