The next matchup in the second round of the NBA Summer Showdown is between two players who are incredibly fun to watch and promises to be a great game.
The Rules
It is a half-court game in which the scoring increments are 1 point for everything inside the arc and 2 points for everything outside the arc, so long-distance bombers will do well in our tourney. The higher seed starts off with the ball and the first player to 11 points wins. The possession switches every time the ball is scored, and your votes determine the winner.
Stephen Curry (2nd Seed)
Curry hopped into the news cycle when he said he was the best NBA player in the NBA, and it is hard not to consider that statement. He is incredibly efficient thanks to his quick jump shots and scores a ton of points. It is a fun combination.
Curry is obviously a front-runner in this tournament thanks to the effectiveness of his 3-point shot. It is impossible to stop. Good luck trying to predict when he will fire off that 3-point shot and getting the correct time to contest it. In this matchup, he is facing a significantly worse defender than he did in round one. Serge Ibaka was a serious defensive threat, but Lillard is not strong on that side. He is a much more better offensive player, but Curry should be able to outpace Lillard.
Damian Lillard (3rd Seed)
Lillard is such an exciting player to watch, but he is facing a player who may be a little bit more dynamic.
Lillard grew on me after watching him in the playoffs last year. I liked him as much as the next guy before last season's playoffs, but once I saw him compete against the Spurs I now really enjoy his game. He is just a fun player who consistently makes shots that make you rub your eyes in shock. Lillard is also a player who can utilize momentum, so it is likely he can show up and put in a good fight against Curry.
This game is my favorite matchup of the second round up to this point, and I am very curious to see how this one ends up.
