Danny Green accepts ALS Ice Bucket challenge

The first of the Spurs to step up to the bucket is the starting shooting guard.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Before I get into Danny Green pouring a bucket of freezing water over himself and challenging the rest of his 2009 North Carolina Tar Heels teammates to do the same, let's have some background. ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's Diseaseis a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. It's debilitating and there's currently no cure.

The ALS Association is promoting awareness and raising funds to fight the disease through the Ice Bucket Challenge which is a chain-letter styled dare to dump a bucket of icewater over yourself.

This is how it works:

Step 1: Accepting and challenging

If Green's under-the-breath expletive at the end is any indication, it seems like he's not looking forward to the experience.

Step 2: The Pouring

But he follows through all the same.

And that's about all there is to it. There's a ton of support for this across the NBA, and all interested parties are asked to take the opportunity please donate to the cause.
