NBA virtual 1-on-1 Tournament: Carmelo Anthony vs Bradley Beal

Carmelo Anthony is vulnerable due to his poor defense. Could he be the first No. 1 seed to fall?

The next matchup in the 1-on-1 Summer Showdown has the most potential to be the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

The Rules

It is a half-court game in which the scoring increments are 1 point for everything inside the arc and 2 points for everything outside the arc, so long-distance bombers will do well in our tourney.  The higher seed starts off with the ball and the first player to 11 points wins. The possession switches every time the ball is scored, and your votes determine the winner.

Carmelo Anthony (1st Seed)

Of all the first seeds in this tournament, Carmelo is easily the most one-sided. Even Kevin Durant has some defensive skill. Carmelo has never looked like a good defender, but he earned his No. 1 seeding thanks to his complete offensive game.

Melo is a scoring machine. He loves to take a lot of shots, and he has mastered the art of making a lot of those shots. He can play facing up and facing away from the basket, and he can hit the long-ball. He has size on a lot of the players in the field, which will make scoring only easier for Carmelo. His first matchup allows him to utilize his size, but Beal will post many other issues that he has to deal with.

Bradley Beal (8th Seed)

Beal isn't the best defender either, but he can shoot the ball very well. He is beginning to creep up the list among best shooting guards in the league. He is very quick with a chance to play Carmelo close thanks to his solid offensive game. While Beal may not be the best defender on the planet, he is not worse than his opponent. If he can make a few stops, Beal will have a chance to really shake up this tournament.
