In a move that set the gaming universe on its ear, Spurs Future Hall of Famer, Tim Duncan, raised a brand new toon to level 90 on World of Warcraft without killing a single thing. "It was mostly for the challenge of it," said Duncan. "It's not a pacifism thing or anything. I play lots of games that involve killing stuff. I just wanted to see if I could do it."
While leveling a character to the max level in World of Warcraft without killing anything has been done before, once when the level cap was 85 and, just recently, with the cap at level 90, Duncan accomplished his goal on a PVP Server.
"It stands for Player vs. Player," said Duncan. "It means there are certain parts of the world where open battle is encouraged and other players from the opposite faction can attack and, potentially, kill you."
Duncan's character, a Horde Mage named Murlyn ("Unfortunately, Merlin was already taken," explained Duncan), who plays on the Shattered Hand server, accomplished his goal in 15 days by gathering and crafting, archaeology, and exploring new areas. "In the old version of the game you had to kill stuff," said Duncan. "Now you get XP, experience points, for all sorts of things."
The accomplishment drew praise from the gaming community. Glen Tate, manager at Dragon's Lair Comics and Fantasy on Fredericksburg Road said, "It's one thing to level a toon in 15 days. It's another to do it in 15 days without killing anything. But to do it on a PVP server -- that's an entirely different proposition altogether."
