The next matchup in the 1-on-1 Summer Showdown is between hometown favorite Tony Parker and versatile offensive threat LaMarcus Aldridge.
The Rules
It is a half court game in which the scoring increments are 1 point for everything inside the arc, and 2 points for everything outside the arc. So long-distance bombers will do well in our tourney. The higher seed stars off with the ball and the first player to 11 points wins. The possession switches every time the ball is scored, and your votes determine the winner.
The Players
Tony Parker (4th Seed)
Tony Parker is built for competitions like this. There are no shot clocks, no need to force jump shots and ample amounts of time to hit crazy layups. Parker's combination of speed and ability to finish at the rim makes him an incredibly difficult player to defend in this format. His inconsistent jump shot could end up being a huge downfall as he needs the threat of the jump shot to maximize his quick first step.
His biggest issue in this matchup is the fact that LaMarcus Aldridge is much bigger and can make shots from inside or out. Defending Aldridge will be close to impossible. He will have to make up for that disadvantage by utilizing his seed.
LaMarcus Aldridge (5th Seed)
Good luck trying to guard this guy in a 1-on-1 game. He can score from nearly anywhere on the floor. He has the size to back down smaller guards and the speed to beat the bigger guys. What makes him so lethal is his combination of great offense and elite shot blocking ability.
Tony Parker is without a doubt faster than Aldridge, which forces LaMarcus to give Parker space for a jump shot. His defense will help slow down Parker's ability to finish any time he gets the slightest amount of daylight inside.
This matchup will be interesting any way you look at it.
