Opponent Game Thread: Mavs, Cavs and El Heat

Filling Joe's place at least for a couple of games, this is my first official PtR article. This has comments from the Spurs' last three games.

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Hello Pounders, here I am again, trying to fill Joe's shoes and giving you another edition of Opponent Game Thread.

Hope you enjoy it!

First: Game Thread from Mavsmoneyball

Stupid Spurs announcers

by the new Bradfather

[I swear that I've read at least one comment in EVERY SINGLE THREAD complaining about Bill and Sean.]

are the mavs scared of the spurs or something?

there is absolutely no reason to play like this against them all the time

by random90 on Mar 2, 2014 | 4:22 PM reply

Someone needs to lay a hard pick on Patty Mills

Don't let him hound the pg all the way down the court

by mtobo on Mar 2, 2014 | 4:37 PM reply

idk. we can't compete with this team

So, in a few lines: they hate us, they hate our announcers, and they hate Manu. And that's why I like beating them so much.

Lebron's 61 was cute but I'll take the Admiral's 71.. still waiting for him to get a quadruple double as well.. Long live the Admiral! Oh and Go Cavs ;)

Cavs/Spurs has worried me since David Robinson, what's that, like 20-25 years? They're unreal.

by ShamansBlues on Mar 4, 2014 | 3:40 PM up replyCols714

It helps when a successful tank job lands you Tim Duncan.

by Cols714 on Mar 4, 2014 | 3:43 PM up reply

[And then you draft Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili... and Kawhi Leonard too]

Why don't the Cavs EVER wear anything but yellow, white, or red jerseys? They should wear retro for Z.

by Usman Haseeb on Mar 4, 2014 | 4:10 PM replyPyroKinesis

Because McDonalds paid money for us to wear their colors.

Yeah, I wouldn't take the "under" on SA scoring 60 points tonight.

the Spurs' offense is just a machine. even when they don't hit shots, their movement and passing is great

I always feel that playing the Spurs is like a learning situation. I prefer they apply the lessons before the end of the game but as long as they learn something I'm happy.

they are old, they're still really good though

by Hugh Parent on Mar 4, 2014 | 5:53 PM up replyferrariford2

I defined old as a guy who's washed, efficiency is down and is useless both ends of the floor. You look at the Spurs, no player has that characteristic. That's why I'm confused about that old thingy.

"PATIENCE YOU MUST HAVE my young padawan"

by ferrariford2 on Mar 4, 2014 | 5:54 PM up replyRyan Mourton

Part of it is Ginobili, who is CLEARLY fitting that category. He was god awful at the end of last season.

The other is a narrative Duncan built in a couple years of leg problems and decline. He lost a bunch of weight and has played better since, but declining at 33 and bouncing back at 35 is odd.

Tim Duncan per-36 stats:

At age 21:
19.4 PPG, 11 RPG, 2.5 APG, 2.3 BPG, 95 Defensive Rating.

At age 37
18.9 PPG, 12.2 RPG, 3.6 APG, 2.4 BPG. 98 Defensive Rating.

Manu at age 25 per 36 minutes

13.2 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 3.5 APG, 2.4 SPG

Manu at age 36:

18.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 7.0 APG, 1.6 SPG.

Decline? We talkin' about decline?
