The Spurs and Jazz played a tight contest where both teams shot well for almost three full quarters. Toward the end of the third The Foreign Legion came on strong to push the Spurs' advantage to 15 at the end of the quarter. The Spurs shot a ridiculous 63% from the field and came away with an 18-point victory.
Derrick Favors was a beast for the Jazz tonight finishing with 28 points and 10 boards. The Spurs' bigs had very little success against him tonight as he tipped in misses and put in some good post work. With Gordan Hayward, Alec Burks, and Trey Burke in addition to Favors the Jazz have a bit of young talent and look to get more talent in the upcoming draft.
For the Spurs, this was a team they were supposed to beat and they took care of business as they have all season long. In addition the Heat beat the Rockets and the Mavericks beat the Thunder to give the Spurs a full two-game cushion over OKC in the Western Conference standings, as well as a six game cushion to the Division Rival Rockets.
Led by 55 points from the Big-Three the Spurs picked up their 50th win of the season, making it 15-straight seasons for the good guys. That's a heck of a feat.
Your Spurs improve to 50-16 for the year and still have the best record in the league!
You can check out the Jazz fan's perspective at the always very good SLC Dunk.
Quick Notes:
- Tim, Tony, and Manu shot 22-of-32 from the field. They also combined for 15 assists. Erler was right. This is the best Big-3 ever.
- Marco Belinelli had a quiet 12 points but he was efficient. He only took 7 shots and he also grabbed five boards and dished four assists.
