Final Score: Spurs continue to roll, beat Lakers 119-85

The Spurs didn't overlook the Lakers and they easily dominated Los Angeles on the way to their ninth-straight win.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

It took the Spurs about five minutes to settle into the game, but the Spurs finished the first quarter on a 23-7 run to give them a 15-point lead at the end of the quarter. The Spurs held the Lakers to 4-of-22 from the field in the first, which limited them to just 14 points.

The second quarter didn't go much better for Los Angeles even though Tony Parker and Tim Duncan took the entire quarter off. The Spurs beat the Lakers in every statistical category during the half and outscored L.A. by 12 in the second to take a 61-34 lead at halftime.

The Spurs are clearly focused and tightening up for the playoffs and the Lakers are really bad. The second half provided little excitement and if you picked a game to skip this year I'm not sure you could have picked a better one than this one that was really over before it started. The Lakers had no chance to beat this red-hot San Antonio squad.

The Spurs improve their league-best record to 49-16, just one win away from extending their record consecutive 50-win seasons to 15.

I'm not sure what kind of Lakers fan not only watched this game, but also took to the internet to discuss it, but you can check out their perspective at Silver Screen and Roll.

Observations:

  • Tim and Tony played 29 combined minutes.
  • Everyone played at least 13 minutes and Matt Bonner and Cory Joseph led the team with 26 minutes each.
  • The Spurs put up 119 points with every player scoring between 3 and 15 points each and assisting each other on 75% of their field goals.
  • Pau Gasol seems to be the only player on the Lakers roster that could even make the Spurs roster. Seriously.
  • The plus/minus king strikes again. Matty B led the team with a plus-21. He also scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. When was the last time Matt had 10 rebounds in a game?
