Tiago Splitter and Kawhi Leonard out for opening night

It's official, the Spurs will be down two of their starters for the season opener against the Mavericks.

USA TODAY Sports

Tiago Splitter is still nursing his calf and Kawhi Leonard is still fighting off a pesky eye infection. Patty Mills is expected to be out for the foreseeable future while he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery.

The night will start with the Spurs getting their rings and hanging up the franchise's fifth championship banner, but the good times will quickly end as the new look Dallas Mavericks will be out to make a statement after pushing the Spurs to seven games in the first round of the playoffs last season only to be blown out in the deciding game.

Rick Carlisle is a great coach and Dirk is Dirk. The Spurs will have their hands full as they wait to get their guys back.

The official statement from the Spurs:

SPURS INJURY REPORT

Kawhi Leonard (right eye infection), Patty Mills (right shoulder surgery) and Tiago Splitter (strained right calf) will not play in Tuesday night's game vs. Dallas.
